The Rehabilitation Counseling program has had two Long-Term Training grant proposals funded by the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services Administration from the U.S. Department of Education. These grants are products of collaborative scholarship from department members of Educational Psychology and Counseling (EPC) and Theory and Practice in Teacher Education (TPTE).

The first proposal was written by Amy Skinner, EPC, and David Smith, TPTE. This award provides funding to train masters students majoring in rehabilitation counseling. The purpose of this grant is to meet the demand of qualified personnel in the State-Federal Vocational Rehabilitation Service Program, and other related agencies.

The second proposal was written by Patrick Dunn, EPC, and David Smith, TPTE. This award provides funding to train masters students majoring in rehabilitation counseling who are also earning a certificate focusing on deafness. The purpose of this grant is to increase the supply of rehabilitation counselors who are specialized to work with persons who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Both of these grants have been funded for a period of five years.
