Application Requirements

Clinical Mental Health Counseling

Prospective applicants must submit an online application to the Office of Graduate Admissions.

International applicants should follow instructions in the Admissions Guide for Graduate International Students.

This program admits students to begin in Summer semester only, and all applications must be complete by December 1 to be considered for admission. When you apply, select Summer as your entry term.

Please Note: The GRE is not required for applicants to the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program.

When you begin your application through Graduate Admissions, you will be prompted to provide the following required materials. The application portal includes specific guidelines for each component.

  • Resumé or Curriculum Vita
  • Letter of Introduction
  • Ethical Integration Statement
  • Transcript(s)
    • An up-to-date electronic version of your original transcript must be uploaded with your online application. This is to expedite your admissions process. If you are admitted into the program, you must have an official copy of your transcripts mailed from your previous/current university directly to UT Graduate Admissions.   • Three Completed Rating Forms
    • Choose raters who can assess your academic background and likely success in a rigorous program. If you are a recent graduate, you should include one or more faculty members who can attest to your work as a student. Other appropriate raters include work supervisors. Family members and personal friends are not appropriate raters. The application system will prompt your raters to submit their forms directly. At least two of your rating forms must be submitted before your application will be considered complete. It is to your advantage to make sure that all three rating forms are submitted on time.

    • The program faculty has suspended the GRE requirement for 2025 applications.

Admissions is a two-step process. First, the program faculty will review your written application materials.

Following this process, the faculty will invite a certain number of applicants for a half-day interview to be held in January, 2025. Once a specific date is announced, please hold this interview date when you submit your application; you can expect to hear if you’ve been invited to proceed in the process by end of December, 2024.
