What are your application requirements?
You must meet the minimum requirements for admissions as set by the University of Tennessee. Each program then has their specific application requirements.

What are the application deadlines?
Application deadlines are based on the program for which you are applying.

Will GRE requirements ever be waived?
For those programs that require it, no, we will not waive the GRE. Some of the master’s degree programs do not require the GRE, some do. ALL doctoral programs require the GRE.

If required, what are the minimum TOEFL and GRE scores?
GRE scores: top 50th percentile
TOEFL scores: 213 on the computer-based test and 550 on the paper-based test.

How can I find out my admissions status?
To check on the status of your application to the UT Graduate School, see information at Graduate Admissions, or call 865-974-3251.

Advising and Registration

Who is my advisor?
You will receive a letter from the department confirming your admission, which will list the name and contact information of your advisor. If you do not receive this information in your letter, please contact the administrative support staff member of your program.

How do I register?
All UT students are issued a NetID. After activating and resetting your password, you will use this NetID to log in to the MyUTK system, where you can register, pay fees, make address changes and view grades from past semesters.

Is it possible to complete this degree around a teaching schedule? Can I take classes part-time?
Several of our programs have students who work full time, quite a few in the field of education. Also, many of our courses are offered in the evening, with others available online. With hard work and dedication to your studies, it is possible to earn a degree around a full-time work schedule. If you do choose to pursue a degree as a part-time student, please make note that master’s degree candidates have six calendar years to complete a degree and doctoral (PhD) candidates have eight years to complete all requirements (Comprehensive Examinations must be complete within five years).

How often are courses offered?
This varies. A tentative plan for course offerings from our programs will be posted soon. Note: these may change according to need and availability of resources.

NOTE: If your question is not answered above, please contact the administrative support staff member of your program.
